Restaurant Tip Calculator

The standard tip at a full-service restaurant in the United States ranges from 15% to 20% of the pre-tax bill. For good service, 18–20% is the norm, while 15% is the minimum for acceptable service. Exceptional service may warrant 25% or more.

If the restaurant has already added an automatic gratuity to your bill, typically 18% for large parties, you do not need to tip additionally. However, you can add extra on top if the service was truly outstanding. Always check your bill to see if gratuity is already included before calculating a tip.

The simplest approach is to calculate the tip on the total bill and divide it evenly among all diners. If people ordered items at very different price points, each person can tip on their individual subtotal instead.
