Each ELSS SIP instalment is locked in for three years from the date of that instalment. So SIPs stagger redemptions — unlike a lump sum where one date applies to the whole investment.

You can invest any amount in ELSS, but the Section 80C deduction is capped at ₹1.5 lakh per financial year across all eligible instruments (EPF, PPF, life insurance premium, ELSS, etc.). A ₹12,500 monthly SIP roughly uses the full ELSS slice of 80C if ELSS is your only 80C investment.

Long-term capital gains (LTCG) on equity funds above ₹1 lakh in a financial year are taxed at 10% without indexation under current Indian rules. Dividends are taxed in the investor's hands as per applicable slab. Rules change — verify with a CA for your assessment year.
