Banks use compound interest: A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where P is principal, r is annual rate, n is compounding periods per year (4 for quarterly), and t is years. Interest is taxable; banks deduct TDS if interest exceeds ₹40,000 per year (₹50,000 for senior citizens).

Bank FDs use compound interest—the accrued interest is added to the principal at each compounding interval. Non-cumulative FDs pay interest out periodically without compounding on the paid portion; cumulative FDs reinvest interest until maturity for higher total returns.

It depends on the rate and compounding. At 7% p.a. compounded quarterly on ₹10,00,000 for 5 years, total interest is roughly ₹4.1–4.2 lakh (maturity about ₹14.1–14.2 lakh). Always verify the exact rate and payout option with your bank.
